Dubai inaugurates two new bridges: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) cut the ribbon on two major bridges spanning 1.2k meters as part of the Garn Al Sabkha-Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road Intersection Improvement Project, according to a statement. The project includes the construction of four bridges and is now 97% complete, with works pegged to finish next month with the opening of the final bridge.

About the bridges: The first 601 meters long two-lane bridge serves eastward traffic from Garn Al Sabkha Street to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road then northward towards Al Qusais and Deira. The second 664-meter-long two-lane bridge should reduce traffic from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road heading southward towards Al Yalayis Street and Jebel Ali Port.

More to come: The final 943 meters long bridge will connect the intersection of Garn Al Sabkha Street with Al Asayel Street and reduce traffic flow between Sheikh Zayed Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.

Doubling down on bridges: The RTA opened two bridges this month on Al Khail Road at Zaa’beel and Al Quoz 1 this month with a cumulative capacity of around 8k vehicles per hour. Dubai opened a two-lane bridge back in June to reduce travel time from Garn Al Sabkha Street to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.

RTA is supersizing developments: RTA awarded a USD 90 mn in contract in early January for improvements to the Umm Suqeim Street Project and awarded an AED 700 mn (c. USD 190.6 mn) contract later in February for the Al Khail Road Improvement Project.
