Boeing’s recent woes are giving China’s domestic jet manufacturer Comac an access point into the Asian jetliner market, the Financial Times reports. The Chinese aircraft maker’s recent international debut at a Singapore airshow saw it ink a substantial order with Tibet Airlines, and Comac jets are already in use with major domestic Chinese carriers, the FT writes. Concerns about Boeing’s safety standards following a recent mid-flight panel blow out on an Alaska Airlines MAX 9 jet has made Comac’s aircraft more competitive in Asian markets, where budget carriers are ramping up orders. Comac’s aircraft also promise significant savings, costing at least a quarter less than their European and US counterparts, the FT also said.
TotalEnergies + Airbus ink a SAF partnership: Airbus and Total Energies have inked a partnership wherein TotalEnergies will supply Airbus with more than half of its needs in Europe for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), according to a statement. TotalEnergies aims to produce some 1.5 mn tons of SAF per year by 2030, the release states. The partnership also includes the establishment of a research program working on the development of 100% sustainable fuels.
TotalEnergies and Airbus have a relationship: TotalEnergies has been supplying Airbus with SAF for its aircraft deliveries in Toulouse since 2016, the statement notes. It also provided SAF for a long-haul flight between Paris and Montreal in 2021 and the first A321neo flight using a 100% SAF last March.
German carrier Lufthansa has seen its second strike this month, withground staff staging walkouts at major German airports on Tuesday, affecting more than 100k passengers and limiting the airline to only 10% of scheduled flights, Reuters reports. German trade union Verdi orchestrated the walkout after turning down a wage offer to some 25k ground workers last week, labeling it as “blatantly antisocial,” the newswire said. The union is calling for 12.5% in wage increases, or EUR 500, plus an EUR 3k payout, to counteract losses to real wages due to inflation, the newswire wrote.
