Egypt + Qatar discuss strengthening economic ties: Egypt’s General Investment Authority CEO Hossam Haiba met with Qatari Ambassador Tariq Ali Al-Ansari to discuss developing new investment and economic cooperation strategies, according to a statement. Haiba stressed that there is an open line of communication with Qatari industries investing in the country, including with large companies interested in investing in logistics, information technology, and distribution centers.
ALSO- Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry held talks with counterparts from the EU to discuss the ongoing disruption in Red Sea trade, according to a statement. Shoukry also highlighted the need for strong economic, trade, and investment ties between Egypt and the EU, and called for increased European investments in Egypt to help it become a regional trade hub.
Morocco + Mauritania talk deepening ties: Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita met with his Mauritanian counterpart Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug to discuss boosting bilateral cooperation, Moroccan News Agency reports. Bourita highlighted Mauritania’s importance in Morocco’s Atlantic Ocean Access initiative for countries in the Sahel region, which looks to provide Sahel countries’ with access to the Atlantic Ocean through Moroccan port and rail infrastructure.
REMEMBER- Morocco was reportedly in talks with Mauritania to include the country in the initiative. Officials from Morocco, Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, and Niger met last month to discuss the initiative for countries in the region.
Qatar + Tajikistan eye stronger trade cooperation: Qatari Commerce and Industry Minister Mohammed bin Hamad bin Qassim Al-Thani met with Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon to discuss strengthening economic ties during the Qatari-Tajik Business Forum on Monday, Qatar News Agency reports. The need for increased cooperation between Qatari and Tajik companies was underscored, as well as the importance of activating the Qatar-Tajikistan Joint Business Council.
ALSO- Qatar discusses more Belarusian cooperation: Qatar’s Foreign Affairs Minister Ahmad Al Hammadi met with his Belarusian counterpart Evgeny Shestakov to discuss improving trade, economic, and investment cooperation, according to a statement. The pair discussed establishing direct or charter flights between Minsk and Doha.
