US tries to quell concern over energy supply amid LNG freeze: The US is assuring its LNG importers that energy flows are secure despite the Biden’s administrations’ pause on new approvals for US exports, Bloomberg reports, citing a press release by US Assistant State Secretary for Energy Resources Geoffrey Pyatt. LNG shipments are still on track to nearly doubling by the end of 2030 given a pre-existing lineup of pre-licensed LNG facilities, Pyatt added.
Background: The US said it would freeze new licenses for LNG export last month while LNG production’s effects on climate change, the domestic economy, and national security are evaluated. Major Asian and European importers of US LNG have expressed concerns future LNG production and supplies could be disrupted, with Japanese Trade Minister Ken Saito saying Japan would take steps to ensure LNG security, Bloomberg writes.
