Managing Editor
Job Purpose
The Editor (English) is responsible for all aspects of the English-language edition of Enterprise, implementing the policies set forth by the Editor in Chief. S/he ensures that all relevant news is covered; approves and assigns stories; enforces deadlines; edits and proofreads final content, making sure the Enterprise tone/voice is consistently maintained; and dispatches the publication. As a producing manager, beyond responsibility for staff management and development, the Managing Editor will also write content on a day-to-day basis.
Responsibilities
- Monitor all sources to ensure all relevant news is covered
- Review the stories submitted by the team
- Approve stories to be included in the issue
- Assign tasks to team members based on their abilities and ensuring fair distribution
- Write content
- Edit and proofread the stories/issue submitted by the team for publication
- Ensure that the Enterprise tone/voice is consistently maintained
- Dispatch the issue
- Manage and develop the team
- Hiring and training new recruits on everything Enterprise
- Ensuring smooth progression of workflow
- Communicating with readers/sponsors
- Ensuring a smooth transition from day shift to night shift work and vice versa
- Fostering Enterprise’s culture
KPIs
- Understanding of business/economic/political news and what stories are relevant day to day
- Ability to write/develop stories, compiling a number of sources into multiple paragraphs that are interesting, clear and concise
- Ability to research topics of interest quickly and under daily deadline constraints
- Ability to delegate, i.e. assign stories based on abilities and ensuring fair distribution
- Polishing/editing/proofreading content
- Contribution of ideas to improve the issue
- Accuracy of content, i.e. number of factual/linguistic errors

Authority
- Daily story selection and assignment for the Enterprise publication

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferably in journalism, business, economics, finance or political science
- Strong experience as a writer/editor
- Strong storytelling skills
- Strong editorial judgement
- Strong analytical skills
- Ability to write flawless English
- Ability to systematically proofread documents
- Strong command of the Arabic language
- Strong understanding of business, economics and politics
- Knowledge of finance basics
- Open-minded and accepting of a broad spectrum of ideas and opinions

- Strong communication and management skills, especially with the team working remotely
