Reporter (English)
Job Purpose
The Writer/Analyst is responsible for investigating, reporting and writing original news pieces on relevant stories for our verticals products, which may also be used in our flagship Enterprise Morning Edition. The content, which could range from long-form analysis pieces to short entries, will primarily be related to business, economics, political science and global affairs. S/he will be required to produce content specifically for the Enterprise Morning Edition.
Responsibilities
- Source news from a broad range of English- and Arabic-language sources including web, television and print media
- Prepare and pitch a list of stories to submit to the Managing Editor and Verticals Editor for review
- Write the allocated English-language summaries, analysis, and long-form investigative pieces
- Convert Arabic news accurately into interesting and concise English stories
- Write original news and analysis pieces based on data, research and in-person interviews with sources
- Investigating leads generated by the writer themselves or the stringer teams
- Develop and maintain sources and contacts
- Attend conferences and events for news and networking purposes

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferably in journalism, business, economics, finance, political science
- Ability to write flawless English
- Strong writing and storytelling skills
- Strong command of the Arabic language
- Strong analytical skills
- Ability to systematically proofread documents
- Ability to investigate news stories through leads, research and contacts
- Strong understanding of business, economics and politics
- Knowledge of finance basics (preferable but not a deal breaker)
- Open-minded and accepting of a broad spectrum of ideas and opinions
- Attention to detail
- Ability to work under pressure and with tight deadlines
- Ability to work independently
- Strong communications skills, especially in conducting interviews and developing contacts
